Hello Coalhurst! I’m Scott Akkermans and I’m excited to run for Mayor. My wife, our energetic 5-year-old son, and I made Coalhurst our home in 2020. We absolutely adore it here!! Seriously, the moment we arrived, we knew this was where we belonged. I was soon elected to council in 2021, and It’s been a privilege to serve ever since.
By day, I work remotely as a draftsman—a role that requires precision, problem-solving, and a keen eye for detail. These skills have proved useful during my time on council.
Beyond work and council duties, you’ll often find me embracing the simple joys of life in and around Coalhurst: adventuring on local hiking trails, casting a line while fishing, or getting my hands dirty making sausage. Weekends are for family—intense army battles with my son, camping, or hosting a great BBQ.
I strive to learn and improve. Recently, I’ve obtained my Professional Certification in Autodesk Inventor, my Municipal Elected Leaders Certificate, and I’m currently working on my Professional Certificate in Management & Leadership.
I’m ready to bring my passion for Coalhurst, my proven experience on council, and my commitment to lifelong learning to the role of Mayor.
